ALLERGIC SKIN CONDITIONS

Eczema and hives are evaluated by an allergist to identify a possible trigger for the skin reaction. Eczema is dry, itchy red skin. Hives are welted raised white expanding skin areas that move around the body occasionally causing deep large swelling of lips of other soft tissues. Infants may present early in life with eczema, which is caused by a food. When the food is eliminated from the diet the eczema gets much easier to treat. Occasionally an adult will show an allergy stimulating the eczema.

Hives can have many types of triggers from food, medication, infection, and other contacts. Providing evaluation and treatment for the skin rash is an area of allergist expertise.
